What is a dead pixel and how to detect it?

Modern displays (LCD, LED, OLED) are made up of millions of tiny points of light called pixels. Each pixel usually has 3 subpixels (red, green and blue). When one of these points fails, two things can happen:

Dead Pixel: The pixel does not receive power and always displays color black constant. It is more noticeable when the screen is displaying light colors or white.
Stuck Pixel: The pixel remains "frozen" permanently displaying a single color (red, green, blue or white). It is easily detected by projecting opposite solid colors.
